Lawyer slams taser review

AN IPSWICH law firm has criticised the government review into police tasers describing it as a public relations stunt.

Criminal defence lawyer Simone Healy said the review was triggered by the death of a man near Townsville last Friday and called for a “proper” review by an independent body.

“Despite repeated calls for the State Government to disclose what, if any, independent safety tests were conducted on these stun guns, the official view was that they were safe and we should not worry about them,” Ms Healy said. “The government owes frontline officers a duty of care to protect them from the psychological damage.”
