Ipswich comedian laughing his way to the big time
IPSWICH comedian Sam Conway is set to perform his unique style of musical comedy on NITV's first comedy program, Express Yourself with Sean Choolburra and Friends.
Mr Conway said his short comedy songs were based on growing up in Ipswich and everyday Australian life.
"My act focuses on family, the crazy stuff people can relate to, a lot of my stuff is about growing up in Ipswich," he said.
"I do a heap of short, sharp songs and get the audience singing along, that's the secret.
"I used to play a lot of sport for Ipswich and it kind of reminds me of singing on those long bus trips after a few drinks."
The SBS station NITV (National Indigenous Television) will air the comedy, hosted by popular comedian Sean Choolburra, this Friday from 9pm.
"Sean is one of the best comedians in Australia, he's deadly.
It was good to work with him and the other acts on the show," Mr Conway said.
"I've had a bit of a hot streak the last few years, they saw me doing my musical comedy at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2011 and thought I would fit in well with the rest of the comedians, people can expect to see a little bit of old stuff and a bit of new material as well."
The comedian from Silkstone said filming in front of a live studio audience who loved his material gave him high hopes for the show's success.
"The audience went crazy," he said.
"It's a deadly comedy show, I think there's a comedian in every family, whether you're black or white, it's just about honing that craft into a performance.
"I hope the show opens up a few doors but I'm just going to see where it takes me."
