MELBOURNE Stars quick Lasith Malinga surprised many cricket fans, as well as the Scorchers batting line-up, as he blasted through them on Wednesday night to claim an astonishing 6-7 at the WACA.

But his captain Shane Warne wasn't one that was taken aback with those figures.

"We knew before the tournament that he is the best Twenty20 bowler," he said.

"He's quick and he's hard to pick up."

Warne, who strained a hamstring in the 10-wicket thrashing, bounced back to form with 1-9 off three overs, after he was smashed for 41 off two overs in game one against the Renegades.

Scorchers coach Justin Langer said the way his team lost was farcical, and he would take the issue up with Cricket Australia.

After a one-hour rain delay, both teams returned for only one ball to be bowled in the Stars' run chase - they were 0-29 from two overs when play resumed, and required just six just runs off five overs under the Duckworth-Lewis system to win after the Scorchers had made a record low score of 69.
