Landlord thrown down unit stairs
A LANDLORD was thrown down a flight of stairs after he tried to deliver a new washing machine to his tenant.
Steven Jeffrey Manhire, 43, was at his girlfriend's rented unit on October 14 when the landlord came to install the new appliance.
Ipswich District Court heard when the landlord arrived at the Willowbank unit, he knocked on the doors and called out to the woman, but there was no answer.
The landlord let himself into the laundry with the master key and was confronted by Manhire, who struck the landlord to the face with such force he tumbled down a flight of stairs.
Manhire and the landlord scuffled, with witnesses reporting the victim to yell out: "It's just a washing machine".
The landlord ran out to the street and the attack came to an end when someone else intervened.
The victim called police and ambulance and was treated for bruising and abrasions to his arms, legs, neck and lip.
Manhire pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm yesterday.
He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail, with a parole release date set for May 15.
Manhire's guilty plea and that he had been in custody since August 17 was taken into account.
Judge Gregory Koppenol said Manhire had a "history of violent, unprovoked gratuitous attacks on people".
Defence barrister Geoffrey Seaholme said Manhire had taken an anger management course in prison and had been off drugs for 12 months.
