VIDEO: Rampage driver to face court today
UPDATE: A 29-year-old man will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court today over yesterday's traffic rampage.
He is charged with 12 offences after allegedly ramming nine vehicles with his Toyota Landcruiser early yesterday morning in Toowoomba.
THURSDAY 2PM: Police have charged a 29-year-old man with 12 offences over this morning's traffic rampage.
The man was taken to hospital after being arrested at the intersection of Hursley Rd and Boundary St this morning but has since been discharged into police custody.
In relation to the crashes at the intersection of Taylor and Tor St, he has been charged with endangering the safe use of a vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle and failing to fulfil duties at a crash.
He has also been charged with another count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, causing a public nuisance and failing to fulfil duties at a crash in relation to the crashes at the intersection of Taylor and McDougall Sts.
The third raft of charges included dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, endangering the safe use of a vehicle, obstructing police, causing a public nuisance, driving under the influence and possessing dangerous drugs.
They related to the man's crashes and arrest at the intersection of Hursley Rd and Boundary St.
Toowoomba City Patrol Group officer Inspector Mark Wheeler said police believed the dangerous drug was methamphetamine, but would have it analysed.
"It is obviously extremely fortunate that no one was seriously injured or worse," Insp. Wheeler said.
A 23-year-old man, who was a passenger in one of the victim vehicles, was treated at Toowoomba Hospital for a back injury but has since been discharged.
The 29-year-old Greenmount man is due to front Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow.
THURSDAY 11AM: A 29-year-old man has been charged over ramming nine vehicles on Toowoomba streets this morning.
About 5.50am, a four-wheel-drive ran into the back of a car at the intersection of Tor and Taylor Sts, before driving to the left of the car, hitting it again and forcing it onto the centre median strip.
The 4WD continued west along Taylor St and, as it approached the intersection with McDougall St, rammed four other vehicles.
The male driver exited his 4WD, verbally abused the drivers of the rammed vehicles before getting back in and continuing west along Taylor St and proceeding left down Boundary St.
As the 4WD approached the intersection of Boundary St and Hursley Rd, he rammed another four vehicles.
Police arrived a short time later, locating the driver in the middle of the intersection causing a disturbance.
A 29-year-old Greenmount man was taken into custody and transported to Toowoomba Hospital for medical advice.
A 23-year-old Highfields man, a passenger of one of the vehicles which was hit near the Boundary St and Hursley Rd intersection, was transported to the Toowoomba Hospital with back injuries
THURSDAY 9AM: A 29-year-old man has been arrested by police after allegedly ramming a number of vehicles on Toowoomba streets this morning.
Sergeant Peter Hudson of Toowoomba Police said the man "was helping police with their inquiries" and had been taken to Toowoomba Hospital for assessment.
Up to 15 vehicles were believed to have been deliberately rammed, Sgt Hudson said.
Numerous people were taken to hospital after the driver of a Toyota Landcruiser rammed several vehicles in Toowoomba this morning.
The carnage started in Taylor St about 5.30am where at least six vehicles were rammed.
Several other vehicles were hit before the rampage ended at the intersection of Boundary and Hursley Rds about 6am.
At least four vehicles were rammed at that intersection before the Toyota Landcruiser was stopped.
Police have arrested the driver of the Landcruiser.
Several motorists have been transported to Toowoomba Hospital.
THURSDAY 6AM: A Toyota LandCruiser has rammed at least six vehicles in Taylor St, Toowoomba, and continued on a rampage across Toowoomba's western suburbs.
Several crashes were reported about 5.30am in Taylor near the intersection with McDougall St.
The LandCruiser was stopped after colliding with at least four vehicles at the intersection Hursley and Boundary Rds about 5.50am.
There are reports several motorists were injured.
The male driver reportedly got out of the vehicle and started "throwing objects" at other motorists.
He has been arrested.
Several motorists are injured.
Emergency services are on scene.
