Laidley honours the fallen

A LARGE gathering attended Laidley's Remembrance Day service at the town's cenotaph yesterday.

RSL sub-branch president Mike Nowlan said the ceremony was intended to remember all those killed in all wars, and especially those who had recently paid the supreme sacrifice in Afghanistan.

Reverend Paul Andrianatos led the gathering in prayer, saying when things are going well it is easy to forget those who have gone before us.

"We remember all who were prepared to make the supreme sacrifice, and we remember that Australia was not alone. We also remember the New Zealanders and other allies who were at our side," he said.

Federal member Scott Buchholz spoke of his recent parliamentary visit to the Middle East and of the enthusiasm and professionalism of our men and women serving there.

As part of the service, the Faith Lutheran College choir sang In Flanders Field.

Bugler John Radke played the Last Post.
