Phantom is only six months old and too young to be without mum, so zoo staff let him stick around during the surgery.

Today, Australia Zoo confirmed that Lizzy is recovering well after her operation and is happy to have her baby back in her arms.

She's been given antibiotics and is improving every day in care at the hospital.

Phantom is putting on weight as well, which zoo staff say is a great sign for the health of both mother and baby.

They anticipate the happy little family will be ready to return to the wild soon.
