Know your rights at Christmas

The State Government has put the call out to Ipswich residents to make sure they know their consumer rights this Christmas in case they need to return or exchange a gift.

Ipswich West MP Jim Madden said it was important residents knew a store's refund and exchange policies when making a purchase for themselves or as a gift.

"(We) should remember while many retailers are happy to exchange or refund items, they aren't always legally obliged to," Mr Madden said. "If you think you may need to exchange a gift or seek a refund, make sure you save receipts."

He said shoppers were entitled to a refund or replacement if an item was faulty, damaged or dangerous but not for a simple change of mind, according to Australian Consumer Law.
