Ipswich Knights hunt for players to kick off new season

HAVING maintained stability and made a special presentation at their recent AGM, Ipswich Knights Soccer Club officials are stepping up their player search for next season's Brisbane Premier League competitions.

The Knights are planning trials at their Bundamba ground from later this month into January for players from under-12 to youth and open grades.

U18 and open men's players are invited to attend pre-season trials at the Bundamba facility starting on Thursday, November 29, at 6.30pm.

Junior team trials start on December 4.

The club trials will be led by Knights technical director Mitch Cattermole and recently-appointed head coach Mark Dykman.

"Everyone is encouraged to attend these sessions to enable Ipswich to field the strongest possible representation in the 2013 Football Brisbane Premier League competition," Knights vice-president Todd Hunt said.

Hunt said players should complete the BPL trial registration form that can be found at: ipswichknights.org.au

The football trials follow the Knights' AGM where the executive was unanimously voted back in.

Troy Beahan was retained as president, assisted by Hunt, treasurer Trisha Powles and secretary Brad Munt.

A special presentation was made at the AGM to long-time club supporter David O'Leary.

He received the Brian "Sugar" Sander Memorial Shield for Volunteer of the Year.

During 2012, O'Leary was instrumental in gaining more than $100,000 in grants for the Ipswich Knights.

Over the past six years, O'Leary has been responsible for driving grants totalling more than $500,000.

This has enabled the Knights to complete field maintenance, purchase valuable football training aids, medical and grounds maintenance equipment and also replacement flood loss furniture.

"That was well-deserved," Hunt said of O'Leary's honour.

"He's one of those guys behind the scenes and he does a lot of grant application work and helps with the fields.

"He's like a quiet achiever."
