Jacaranda kindy to celebrate 35 years of happy faces

HAPPY memories are sure to come flooding back when the Jacaranda Street Community Pre-School and Kindergarten celebrates its 35th anniversary this month.

The kindy, which started out as a playgroup for the adjoining church in 1979, is still using the same converted former church hall building.

Director Melissa Henderson said the community-minded nature of the kindy had ensured families kept coming back over the years.

"A couple of families have brought their children here after having come here themselves as children," Ms Henderson said.

"I think because we are a community kindy, mums and dads are more likely to get involved.

"The parents essentially run the kindy - if there is a fundraiser or a working bee, the parents are involved - it is traditional in that respect."

The community fun day will be held at the kindy from 1-4pm on Sunday, August 31.

It will feature a jumping castle and face painting for the kids, with a sausage sizzle and stalls.

To celebrate the anniversary, the kindy will put class photos and excursion pictures from the last three decades on display.

For more information, phone the kindy on 3281 7173 or email jacst@bigpond.net.au.
