Kindy celebration draws 700 visitors

SEVENTY-five years of the Ipswich Kindergarten were celebrated on Saturday.

More than 700 people packed into the Milford St kindy to celebrate the anniversary with a fete.

Former students as well as the kindy's current kids made took part in a range of fun activities and events.

Ipswich Kindergarten director Vicki Doig said the day had been a huge success.

"It was very successful," she said. "We had a lot of older families visit to see the kindergarten of their or their children's youth. One family came down from the Sunshine Coast to see their son's kinder- garten. He was here in 1973."

Instead of releasing balloons to celebrate the anniversary the kindergarten released 75 homing pigeons.

The birds flew around the kindergarten twice before making their way back to their home in Leichhardt.

"It was fantastic; you should have seen the looks on the children's faces when they flew around the kindy."
