Keating accepts fate after Eels finish

NRL: Parramatta stalwart Matt Keating has no ill feeling toward the club or coach Ricky Stuart despite being one of several players shown the door after the Eels picked up their second consecutive wooden spoon on Sunday.

The 26-year-old, who averaged more than 36 tackles a game in 2013, joins a host of players, including Reni Maitua, Willie Tonga, Ben Smith and Ben Roberts, as part of a mass cleanout by the coach.

"That's the way the club is moving forward and we've just got to man up and accept it," said Keating, who has played 129 games in six season at the Eels.

"I've had a few little dabbles from some other clubs and I'm hoping to have my future sorted out soon."

Ironically, Stuart may also have been involved in his last game as Parramatta coach, with speculation linking him to a move back to Canberra on a multi-year deal.

Keating, however, said he thought the former NSW Origin mentor would stay in Sydney's west.

"I think he'll stay, see out his contract with Parra and finish what he started. He's been hard on everyone since coming here. He's very competitive and he's tried to turn us into a competitive club," Keating said.

That certainly hasn't worked this season, the Eels managing just five wins and having 50 points scored against them four times.

One of those was Sunday's 54-6 loss to Newcastle.

Stuart confirmed after the match he had a get-out clause in his contract.

"We have a volatile board. Why wouldn't I? (have a get-out clause)," he said.
