Missing Wivenhoe kayaker found

A MISSING 32-year-old man and his dog have just been found after they failed to return from a kayaking trip to Wivenhoe Dam yesterday.

The man and his dog went out on the dam on a four-metre kayak and had not been heard from since around 2pm. An initial search by the family failed to find the man.

Police co-ordinated a search at first light today with assistance from water police, SES staff, volunteers marine vessels and a rescue 500 chopper.

The man was spotted by the chopper and both he and his dog are safe and well.

6.50am: POLICE are searching for a 32-year-old man who failed to return from a kayaking trip to Wivenhoe Dam yesterday.

The man went out on the dam on a 4-metre kayak at about 2pm with his dog.

Police will co-ordinate a search at first light today with assistance from water police, SES staff and marine volunteers.

A preliminary ground search was conducted with family members, but there was no sign of the man or his dog.

It is believed the man is not an experienced kayaker, and was not carrying adequate equipment for the overnight weather conditions.

Police are appealing for any one who has seen the man to contact police.
