Just bus it to the Cup

THE commuter confusion which surrounded previous Ipswich Cups will not be repeated this year.

Punters can catch a free shuttle bus from Bundamba train station directly to the Ipswich Turf Club for Saturday's marquee event of the racing calendar.

TransLink deputy director-general Matt Longland said public transport was the best way to get to the Cup Day meet, with regular train and bus services stopping nearby.

"On Saturdays, route 500 buses run approximately every hour between Riverlink Shopping Centre and Goodna train station, which includes a stop on Brisbane Rd outside the racecourse," he said.

"Bundamba train station on the Ipswich/Rosewood line is also close to the racecourse.

"No need to worry about traffic congestion or wasting time finding a parking space."

Westside Bus Company general manager Mark Thatcher said the buses had been organised by Ipswich Turf Club.

"Together, we're making it easier for people to get to this year's Ipswich Cup with free regular shuttle buses between the station and venue starting at 9.15am and running throughout the day," he said.

"Return shuttle buses will run between 3.45pm and 8.30pm, once the racing action starts to wind down.

Ipswich Turf Club general manager Brett Kitching said the Cup Day was one of Ipswich's biggest annual social events.

"The Cup is the largest provincial racing club meet in all of Australia and without a doubt a highlight on the many people's social calendars," he said.

Mr Longland said public transport was handy for customers getting around to many of the big events that are on in south-east Queensland.

He urged commuters to plan ahead using the journey planner on the TransLink website. Visit translink.com.au or phone 13 12 30, anytime.
