Jury sees video of man being hit as he slams door

A MAN accused of assaulting another man over a building dispute has gone to trial.

An Ipswich District Court jury yesterday heard Truggve Clive Salter, 60, went to a homeowner's house early on February 24 last year.

The jury was told the homeowners were renovating a house at Springfield Lakes and had become embroiled in an argument with the builders over the work.

Prosecutors said Salter went to the house and when the homeowner tried to shut the door on him, he allegedly struck out at the victim and opened a wound above his left eye.

Salter has pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm in company and forcible entry.

A police officer testified yesterday and said when she arrived the victim was "upset and distressed" with a bleeding gash above his left eye.

The jury was shown video footage showing three men approach the house and the victim try to slam a glass door shut to stop them getting in.

A male can be seen hitting the victim as the victim yelled "call the police".

Someone is heard yelling profanities and the recording ended.

The police officer said watching the footage, she was only able to identify one builder but not Salter.

Salter is representing himself during the trial, which continues before Judge Greg Koppenol today.
