Jobless rate at highest point in 14 years

APN NewsdeskTHE jobless rate has kept rising in recent months, crawling to 6.3% in November - the highest unemployment rate in 14 years.

Figures released by the ABS on Thursday also showed the labour force participation rate rose only slightly, up 0.1 percentage point to 64.7% in November.

While there were an extra 42,700 employed people in November compared with October, it was largely driven by rises in part-time jobs for women and full-time jobs for men, but offset by a fall in female full-time employment.

Overall, the full-time employment figure rose by only 1800 new jobs in November and the labour force "underutilisation" was 15% in November, up 0.6 points since August.
