Jarryd Hayne has good return for San Francisco
Jarryd Hayne showed the benefit of his time on San Francisco's practice squad with a fumble-free return in the 32-17 loss to the Detroit Lions.
After playing the first six matches of the NFL season, the former Parramatta Eel was sent to the practice squad to learn the intricacies of the game.
He played mostly as a punt returner in his early games, but started at running back against the Lions, finishing with nine rushing carries for 27 yards and five receptions for 20 yards.
Hayne also showed his toughness, bouncing off a big first-half hit from Detroit's 110kg linebacker Josh Bynes, to secure a three-yard gain and a first down.
"I got a lot of work, and for me to get that experience, it's invaluable," he tweeted after the match.
San Francisco - which is well out of playoff contention at 4-11 - will finish its season against the St Louis Rams on Monday.
