Jailed Pisasale rushed to hospital after "mishap"

JAILED ex-Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale has been rushed to hospital from prison with a broken collarbone.

Sources say Pisasale, who was sentenced to two years' jail on Thursday for extortion, was taken by ambulance from Wacol prison just before 10am.

He was transported to Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

The Courier-Mail has been told Pisasale was doing chin-ups in the exercise yard when he broke his collar bone.

A Queensland Corrective Services spokeswoman confirmed the 67-year-old prisoner was transported to the PAH following a "mishap on exercise equipment" at Wolston Correctional Centre this morning.

"It is understood prisoners were in the exercise yard following an earlier incident between other prisoners when the man attempted to use the exercise equipment," she said.

"Initial advice is that the man suffered a shoulder injury.

"Following an assessment by health staff it was established he needed treatment at hospital."
