It's all go as Harvey celebrates

HARVEY Norman is somewhat of a household name to many Australians, and for Ipswich residents it has been a welcome addition to the retail landscape in the city.

This month marks the first anniversary of Harvey Norman coming to Ipswich.

The two local franchisees are Grant Simpson (computers) and John Morton (electrical).

"Harvey Norman is known for the latest in technology. We are often the first to market, and we are very cutting edge. People know and trust the brand," Mr Simpson said.

Mr Simpson and Mr Morton took over from the former owner who established the Ipswich store.

The Harvey Norman brand offers a formula for operating the business and is therefore an attractive franchise arrangement.

It has history, quality and a reputation that is strong around Australia.

Coupled with this is the strength that the two men behind the Ipswich store bring.

Mr Simpson has 13 years experience in computers, including retail and management. He also has a strong history as a computer technician.

He has worked for Harvey Norman for seven years, going from sales to store manager and now to a franchisee.

Mr Morton brings 20 years experience in electrical retailing. He has gone from sales to second in charge to a store manager, also with Harvey Norman for about 11 years.

"We have a diverse range of electrical products," Mr Morton said.

"We are certainly cooking specialists and carry Australian and European brands. Masterchef has been good to drive awareness and people are appreciating food and wanting to cook."

Other areas of growth in the business include air-conditioning and cleaning products.

Televisions and video equipment are other big sellers.

"We offer installation as some people don't have time and others get confused in setting up the equipment," Mr Morton said.

Staff are kept up to date with the latest in technology across the broad range of products.

"We have online training as well as face to face supplier training. We strive to be able to offer advice and this training keeps us up to speed," Mr Morton said.

Harvey Norman Ipswich also has a massive computer section.

"We have 60 laptops, which is a big range to choose from. Towers are still popular and we have a big range of these as well," Mr Simpson said.

In addition to the hardware, Harvey Norman Ipswich has an onsite service centre that can deal with any repairs or maintenance.

Add to this extensive software for both business and personal use and you do have a very comprehensive computer section.

The store is open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, until 7pm Thursday, and on Saturday from 9am and Sunday from 10am, closing at 4pm both days.
