Ipswich rates rise 5.74%

IPSWICH City Council has announced a rates increase of 5.74 per cent, the lowest increase for a Queensland council this year, in its 2009-10 Budget.

The key projects announced by Mayor Paul Pisasale are $150,000 for a feasibility study into a fast bus transport system and $250,000 to look into a new bridge across the Bremer River.

Councillors at the budget meeting also voted for Ipswich to become the first Queensland Council to ban exotic animals in circuses.

The councillors also voted unanimously to leave the Council of Mayors.
