Lucky escape from head-on

POLICE were on the lookout for a silver Holden Commodore sedan with NSW number plates following a near head-on collision on the Cunningham Highway yesterday.

A man was lucky to escape with minor injuries after being forced to swerve off the highway near Flinders View.

The man’s gold Mazda then rolled after slamming into an embankment.

Police said the man was apparently avoiding a head-on collision with a vehicle which was overtaking one or more vehicles while heading west along the highway.

The offending vehicle failed to stop at the scene of the crash, which happened about 2.20pm, halfway between the Ripley on-ramp and the Ipswich-Boonah Road turn-off.

The crash blocked one lane, causing short delays for traffic headed in both directions as police conducted traffic control.

Anyone with information should contact the Yamanto Police Station on 3817 1333.
