Ipswich Hospital tops specialist score card
IPSWICH Hospital is leading the state in specialist outpatient appointments, with the patients in the most serious conditions accessing medical advice within 30 days.
New statistics reveal category one patients see a specialist within the recommended period 100% of the time.
The hospital hits the 100% mark in nine of the 12 specialist areas.
Cairns Base Hospital is the next best, with two specialist areas reaching 100%.
Toowoomba, Mackay and Mt Isa hospitals have one category, but every other hospital in the state has none.
Health Minister Lawrence Springborg said the West Moreton Hospital and Health Services Board deserved praise for their recent results.
"I have visited Ipswich Hospital recently and it is apparent that they are leaders in innovative strategies that deliver streamlined health services," he said.
"This is shining through and is evident in the published patient statistics.
"What is unique to Ipswich is the enthusiasm and commitment from their staff at all levels to ensure great health outcomes for the people of Ipswich."
West Moreton Hospital and Health Board chairperson Dr Mary Corbett said the statistics will help GPs and their patients make informed decisions on their healthcare options
"People in our community will now be able to see the full picture of how Ipswich Hospital is performing and thus have more access to information about their hospital than ever before," she said. "The data published indicates areas where we can improve and focus our energies better into the future."
