Ipswich Hospital staff deserve a standing ovation
I WALKED into Ipswich Hospital for the first time yesterday ... fortunately I was only there for a meeting.
I had expected the hospital to be busy and it lived up to that expectation.
What I wasn't expecting was to be met at the main entrance by two volunteers who greeted me with a smile and a cheerful "can we help you".
Anne-Maria and Yvonne were manning the front volunteers' desk and their presence was greatly appreciated.
Many people rolling into a major hospital do so with great uncertainty. They usually don't know where to go and for many their nerves are jangling.
That's why these volunteers are so important.
A welcome smile is all that is needed to make you feel as though someone cares.
Both volunteers I met have been rolling into the hospital with their good humour for years.
Their payment is a thank-you and knowing that they have shown kindness to many who need just that at that very moment.
Their efforts may be only small but it's part of the reason why the Ipswich Hospital has started to excel in all performance categories.
On behalf of the readers of the QT, can I say well done to all the staff and the executives of the hospital .
We appreciate your commitment.
