Greyhound club answers concerns over live baiting furore

IPSWICH City Council recently sent a letter to the Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club asking them to give their response to the criticism of the sport following the ABC Four Corners investigation.

Here is their response:

In reply to your correspondence regarding the live baiting issue, the Committee of Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club is also very concerned with this.

We do not condone this practice, as you stated it is disappointing that the minority of licensees damage the reputation of the industry.

We would like to assure you that every effort is being made to make sure that this does not happen at Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club.

If any member of this club is found guilty of such an offence their membership will be cancelled and we will be supporting any action by Racing Queensland.

Our club has always been very community minded.

We buy locally when we can.

We also encourage local charities, sporting clubs and schools etc to hold fundraising nights at the club.

These are very popular.

We thank you for your previous support and hope this will continue in the future.

MERV PAGE, Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club manager
