Ipswich Festival is off with a bang

THE Ipswich Festival blasted off last night in style with the QT-sponsored Fire on the River spectacular.

The fireworks display has become an institution over the years and Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale said it symbolises the start of the fortnight-long Ipswich Festival. "It is the start of two weeks of celebration," he said.

"It is where we stop and celebrate some of the things that are good about our festival - which is the multiculturalism, our river, our parades and the arts.

"It is a good time to invite all your friends from south-east Queensland to show off Ipswich. This is about the heart and soul of the city."
