Ipswich disaster taskforce meets

IPSWICH'S Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) convened for an emergency meeting this morning to address the city's growing flood crisis.

LDMG deputy chairman Trevor Nardi said the group moved back into a higher alert level after heavy rain dumped on the region last night.

"We'll meet again this afternoon and we'll be watching what happens during the day," Cr Nardi said.

"The worst problem we have at the moment is bridges cut off. Esk is cut off - you have to go around the back way - and the Brisbane Valley Highway is cut off at Fernvale.

"We had one evacuation overnight; we evacuated the caretaker cottage at Colleges Crossing."
