Ipswich club karters enjoy Pro Tour success

A NUMBER of Queenslanders have topped the weekend's Rotax Pro Tour event in Ipswich.

That included an Ipswich Kart Club clean sweep of the podium in the Junior Max category and the Rotax Heavy division. All categories doubled as state championships.

In the elite Junior category Junior Max class, Queenslander Harrison Hoey made a welcome return to the top step of the podium. He survived a blistering charge in the final two laps from Ricciardo Kart driving Gold Coaster Lachlan Hughes.

Hughes had been behind Jac Preston for much of the race then made a decisive move.

The trio are all Ipswich Kart Club members.

Ipswich regular Chris Farkas led a dominant display to take the win in Rotax Heavy from former V8 Utes champion, Kris Walton and Jarad Neinert. Farkas' win was convincing over Walton.

There was no joy for Walton in the second category he competed in either, DD2 Masters for drivers over 35. He led every lap in his Comp Kart until with three laps to go, Victorian Troy Woolston swept into the lead.

Try as he might, Woolston couldn't get by Woolston - who started 10th on the grid - and had to settle for second.

In another big win for him in Ipswich, multiple Aussie champion Brad Jenner took out the Rotax Light division.

Canberra's Joshua Fife won DD2.

In the remaining Junior categories, Russell Mayo took a comprehensive win in the Junior Max Trophy division, Hugh Barter the Mini Max class and Harry Arnett the Micro Max class for 7-9 year olds.

The next big meeting at Willowbank for the Ipswich Kart Club will be in June.
