OPINION: Invitation to Costco to make Ipswich home

To: Costco Australia Managing Director , Patrick Noone

Dear Pat,

There is an old saying in Australia which says "strike while the iron's hot".

It basically means when a great opportunity comes up, grab it with both hands.

And what an opportunity we have for you in Ipswich.

Unfortunately it has come about because of the demise of Masters Home Improvement.

They have recently spent millions building two major stores in our city precinct.

One in Bundamba, with nearby access to both the Warrego Highway and the Ipswich Motorway, and the other in the fast developing Springfield district.

The Springfield location is a stone's throw from the Centenary Highway and part of a major shopping precinct.

Both stores are over 10,000sqm in size, not far under the average of your stores across America.

Better news for you is that there is already a trained workforce of more than 200 who will be looking for a job when Masters closes its doors.

Initially Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale is the man to talk to and he will help make your move to Ipswich as smooth as possible.

It's a great opportunity and one this newspaper would be pleased to support.

Kind Regards

Editor Peter Chapman
