Investigation promised into Ripley driveway tragedy

THE Child Safety Department has promised a full investigation into the events leading up to a toddler being run over in a driveway.

Braxton Nowlan, who lived with his grandmother on Clarke St, Ripley, died on Monday after a car reversed over him.

A spokesman confirmed the car belonged to the Department of Child Safety.

"A Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services car was involved in yesterday's incident," the spokesman said. "The department is providing the utmost care and support to both family members and staff.

"The department will review this incident and this review will also be externally scrutinized. The police are continuing their investigation and will also prepare a report for the coroner's office.

"As the matter is subject to several investigations, the Department does not intend to comment further at this point."

Ipswich police Inspector Dave Preston said everyone involved in Braxton's death would be interviewed as part of the investigation.

The police Forensic Crash Unit and Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating.

The driver was on official duties visiting the home before she reversed out of the driveway and over the toddler about 1pm Monday.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics tried to revive him but he could not be saved.
