Inspiring seadog Jock honours recruit Sam

RECRUIT Sam Allwood from TS Ipswich Australian Navy Cadets was recently presented with the Most Improved Cadet shield by retired navy seaman Ian "Jock" Henderson from the Naval Association of Australia Ipswich branch.

It was a great honour for Sam to receive the award from such a wonderful navy man as Jock.

Jock joined the Royal Navy in 1946 and served on sweepers.

He transferred to the Royal Australian Navy in 1949 and served on HMAS Sydney and HMAS Bataan in the Korean War.

He has been a member of the Naval Association of Australia since 1959 and is a life member.

He also served in the Royal Australian Navy reserve.

The Australian Navy Cadet Unit, TS Ipswich, is in Milford St, Ipswich and cadets meet there regularly.
