Increase in traffic fatalities prompts warning

A HORRIFIC run on Ipswich roads has prompted an urgent plea from police for motorists to take care.

There have been 15 fatal traffic accidents in the Ipswich District so far this year, resulting in the deaths of 16 people.

Senior Constable Pru Wallace said excess speed, failure to give way, wet weather and alcohol had contributed to various crashes that police had investigated since the beginning of 2015.

"Ipswich police are urging motorists to obey speed limits at all times, look out for other vehicles, drive to the road and weather conditions, and please do not drink and drive," she said. "We would like this to be a safe and happy Christmas period for every family."
