Police officer assaulted at Gatton

A MAN has been charged with the serious assault of a female police officer after being asked to leave a Gatton pub.

Police will allege the 37-year-old man also pushed a female officer during a disturbance outside the Railway St premises in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers were called to the hotel on an unrelated matter when they noticed the accused man being refused entry and then falling over.

It is alleged that after going to assist the man, he pushed a female officer twice after taking offence at the directions that they had given him.

Police said the man then punched a 32-year-old female officer in the face, causing a fracture that required treatment at St Vincent's Hospital.

The man was restrained and arrested.

He was later charged with one count of serious assault of police causing bodily harm and three counts of assault police while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

The case will be heard before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court.
