Council says yes to grow shopping centre at Lowood

SOMERSET Regional Council says it has supported economic development in the region by approving an extension to a shopping centre at Lowood.

The development on Forest Hill-Fernvale Rd near Eagle Rise Estate allows for a supermarket, retail stores, child care centre and medical facility to be built in the estate.

The council approved a request by the developer to increase the size of the supermarket and associated retail tenancies.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the small change would make a huge difference to the applicant.

"The increased space will assist with making the development more viable for the applicant," Cr Lehmann said.

"These types of developments provide high levels of convenience to consumers and this one in particular will service the Eagle Rise Estate community."

The developers have until February 2016 to build the precinct before the approval lapses.
