Ice addiction made 'good worker' sell drugs

ICE ADDICTION led to a 'good worker' selling drugs and landing in jail.

Dusty Shuttleworth, 30, now plans to stay away from Dalby, where a court heard he lands in the most trouble.

On Friday, Brisbane District Court heard Shuttleworth supplied drugs eight times.

Some offences involved supplying ice, or methylamphetamine, in March last year.

Police found phone messages related to Dalby drug deals.

Judge Leanne Clare said Shuttleworth had a "terrible" childhood and was using drugs by age 13.

Despite that, he later developed employment skills and was "a good worker".

A relative was in court to support Shuttleworth, who had been offered a "a stable home" and employment, Judge Clare added.

"Your history reflects your long association with drug abuse."

Judge Clare said Shuttleworth had "law-abiding" supporters willing to help him.

"They identify you as a good person when you're off the drugs."

The court heard the deals Shuttleworth did were "street-level" volumes up to 1g, to feed his own habit.

But Judge Clare added: "Ice is a drug that causes misery and pain throughout the community".

He had already spent nine months in custody.

Shuttleworth earned credit for time served and an early guilty plea.

The judge ordered Shuttleworth be released on parole straight away.

"Good luck," Judge Clare told him. -NewsRegional
