‘I HAD SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY’: Harvey hit on teenage Kate

KATE Beckinsale, 44, has joined the long list of women who say they were sexually harassed by Harvey Weinstein.

The star revealed that she was hit on by Weinstein when she was just 17, offered alcohol and called a c**t when she turned him down.

She wrote on Instagram that she has knocked back Weinstein many times over the years and that he loved to tell people "Kate lives to say no to me".

The Pearl Harbour star says that a male friend of hers tried to warn a young actress who said she was going to dinner with Weinstein about his alleged behaviour.

"He received a phone call the next day saying he would never work in another Miramax film; the girl was already sleeping with Harvey and had told him that my friend had warned her off," she wrote.

Beckinsale says her rejection of Weinstein "undoubtedly" hurt her career.

I was called to meet Harvey Weinstein at the Savoy Hotel when I was 17. I assumed it would be in a conference room which was very common. When I arrived ,reception told me to go to his room . He opened the door in his bathrobe . I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older ,unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him .After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left ,uneasy but unscathed.A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting .I realized he couldn't remember if he had assaulted me or not .I had what I thought were boundaries - I said no to him professionally many times over the years-some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a cunt and making threats, some of which made him laughingly tell people oh "Kate lives to say no to me ." It speaks to the status quo in this business that I was aware that standing up for myself and saying no to things, while it did allow me to feel uncompromised in myself, undoubtedly harmed my career and was never something I felt supported by anyone other than my family.I would like to applaud the women who have come forward , and to pledge that we can from this create a new paradigm where producers, managers, executives and assistants and everyone who has in the past shrugged and said " well, that's just Harvey /Mr X/insert name here " will realize that we in numbers can affect real change. For every moment like this there have been thousands where a vulnerable person has confided outrageous unprofessional behavior and found they have no recourse, due to an atmosphere of fear that it seems almost everyone has been living in .I had a male friend who, based on my experience, warned a young actress who said she was going to dinner with Harvey to be careful. He received a phone call the next day saying he would never work in another Miramax film ;the girl was already sleeping with Harvey and had told him that my friend had warned her off.Let's stop allowing our young women to be sexual cannon fodder, and let's remember that Harvey is an emblem of a system that is sick, and that we have work to do.

UK, US COPS INVESTIGATE WEINSTEIN

LONDON police are investigating a sexual abuse claim against Weinstein that allegedly happened in the UK in the 1980s.

'We can confirm the Metropolitan Police Service was passed an allegation of sexual assault by Merseyside Police on Wednesday, 11 October," Met Police said.

A spokesman for police in Liverpool said: "Merseyside Police can confirm a report was received at 8.40am on Wednesday of an alleged sexual assault in the London area in the 1980s. The report has been referred to the Metroplitan Police."

Weinstein also faces an NYPD probe as the raft of allegations against him continued to mount.

"Based on information referenced in published news reports the NYPD is conducting a review to determine if there are any additional complaints relating to the Harvey Weinstein matter," the NYPD said. "No filed complaints have been identified as of this time."

MCGOWAN SUSPENDED FROM TWITTER

It came as Rose McGowan was silenced by Twitter with the social media platform suspending her account after she hit out against Weinstein.

The social media platform suspended the 44-year-old, who was allegedly assaulted by Weinstein in 1997.

"Twitter has suspended me. There are powerful forces at work. Be my voice," she wrote on Instagram.

She also shared a screen grab of Twitter's suspended account notification, which says "We've determined that this account violated the Twitter Rules." The message also suggests she "Delete the Tweets that violate our rules."

This morning Twitter restored McGowan's account and apologised for not being clear on its decision.

Twitter said the suspension was because McGowan tweeted a private phone number, a practice it said violated its service terms.

The company said it will "be clearer about these policies and decisions in the future."

McGowan had tweeted at Ben Affleck to "f*** off", saying the actor knew about Weinstein's history of sexual harassment because they had discussed it. McGowan says Affleck said to her "I told him to stop doing that", referring to the harassment.

She also tweeted "Now I am allowed to say rapist," without mentioning Weinstein specifically.

Social media users were quick to slam Twitter for trying to silence the actress.

WEINSTEIN: 'WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES'

It comes as Weinstein boarded a plane, believed to be heading to a rehab clinic in Arizona.

Asked how he was doing, the megaproducer said "I'm not doing OK but I'm trying. I gotta get help. I'm hanging in, I'm trying my best."

At least 30 women in the film industry accused him of rape, groping and sexual harassment, he added: "You know, we all make mistakes ... second chance I hope."

It is believed Weinstein will reside at The Meadows centre in Wickenburg, Arizona, where celebrities like Tiger Woods have sought treatment at a cost of about $US40,000 a month.

Stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevingne, Mira Sorvino, Rosanna Arquette and former Bond girl Lea Seydoux have come out against Weinstein saying he sexually harassed them. Others like Asia Argento says Weinstein raped her when she was 21.
