Porsche hybrid leads way for new Cayenne range
THE new Porsche Cayenne promises a sharper design, boosted efficiency and more standard equipment.
Forecast to arrive in November, the new generation Cayenne will launch in five variants - Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo, Cayenne Diesel, Cayenne S Diesel and the first premium plug-in hybrid, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid2.
All panels and body work forward of the windscreen have been redesigned. Also new are the airblades: these air fins on the right and left front guide air to the intercoolers and also make a strong visual statement.
Interior changes are focused mainly around the driver - a new multi-function sport steering wheel with shift paddles is standard; with its look and functions based on the steering wheel of the 918 Spyder. Rear seat comfort is also enhanced and rear seat ventilation is now available as an option.
All engines have improved performance as well as better fuel consumption.
The Cayenne S E-Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine and electric motor producing a combined power output of 306kW and 590Nm of torque. Yet it can still manage zero to 100kmh in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 243kmh.
Under the bonnet of the Cayenne S is a 3.6-litre V6 twin turbo which generates 309kW (up 15kW) and 550Nm (up 50 Nm).
With the standard eight-speed automatic it can reach 100kmh in 5.5 seconds (5.4 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package).
The Cayenne Turbo is characterised by a 4.8-litre eight-cylinder with twin turbo. Its power is 382kW and torque is rated at 750Nm, good enough for a 0-100kmh time of 4.5 seconds.
The diesel versions of the Cayenne has a 3.0-litre V6 with 193kW and 580Nm. The sprint time from zero to 100kmh is 7.3 seconds.
For those wanting more performance from an oil-burner, there is 4.2-litre V8 S Diesel which produces 283kW and 850Nm. From standstill, it reaches 100kmh in 5.4 seconds.
