Huge motor weekend as season’s set for climax
WELL the Street Series certainly turned it on for young and old last weekend.
Josh Fletcher took out the Street Sedan title for an amazing sixth time, and for the third time in a row - how incredible is that?
And it was in the same race car that his step-mother Susanne Fletcher used back on October 21 to take out the Powder Puff title.
I can only imagine the well-deserved celebrations that have been going on in that family lately.
On two wheels, it was Raceview's fastest postie Denis Ryan - would you believe that he was one of four posties in the finals for the Street Series across the Bike and Powder Puff categories, including his partner Tammy Goldthorpe?
Somehow I don't think he was competing on his postie bike last Saturday though.
What a great showing by him and all the finalists. It certainly was great to watch.
At the same time, the second Roll Racing event was underway at Queensland Raceway, which had hosted around 100 drifting machines for the Friday Night Drift the night before.
It really was all happening, and the action will continue to "roll-on" with plenty of events coming to the Ipswich motorsport precinct this weekend.
The thrills start tonight with a GM-themed Test 'n' Tune, before Saturday has the start of the sixth and final round of the Queensland Racing Drivers' Championship at Queensland Raceway and the penultimate round of the IKC Championship at the Ipswich Kart Club.
That night the Ipswich Dirt Kart Club will fire up for their last meeting of the year, and then on Sunday the QRDC racing at QR will continue while Mopar Sunday will have Mopar machines of every type, size and shape descend on the Willowbank Raceway drag strip.
I read an interview from Mopar Sunday poster car racer Greg Emberley last week and he says it is one of the best days for Mopars in the country, and that is good enough for me.
I can't wait to get in amongst it and enjoy the atmosphere and the continuous parade of Mopar machines, including Greg's impressive '66 Dodge Coronet.
That red rocket goes a lot quicker than it appears, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us all this Sunday.
It is such an exciting time of year right now.
We have championships wrapping up all over the place and the action is coming down to the wire.
The racers are all throwing everything on the line in their pursuit of glory, no matter what their machine of choice; but at the same time amongst all the seriousness, we also have great events like Mopar Sunday and the chance to run our own cars or bikes down the drag strip.
