How to take the perfect selfie

SELFIES. We whinge when they clog up our Facebook news feed but just can't help but snap them, especially when we're travelling.

The act of turning a camera or smartphone on yourself and snapping photos of your face with your pets/dinner/mates/travel destinations/new sunglasses or haircut has become the norm, especially when it comes to social media.

But just what makes a good selfie?

According to CQ University's lecturer in multimedia Brendan Murphy, a good selfie should be about your personality and confidence.

"It is important to look confident, comfortable and relaxed as you snap yourself," he said.

"Other than this, the tips for taking a good selfie are much the same as those for taking any photograph."

He said the selfie was a defining media form of today's youth and was becoming more important in other areas.

"Even the recent federal election saw the prime ministerial candidates pausing to take "selfies" with voters," Mr Murphy said.
