How to save a life

HOW do you recognise that someone may be at risk of suicide and then take appropriate action to help?

That's the question Wesley Mission's LifeForce Suicide Prevention Program will be answering in a suicide prevention workshop in Nambucca Heads next month.

Every day in Australia, an average of six people die from suicide.

It is the biggest killer of men under 44 and women under 34.

Wesley Mission's CEO, the Rev Dr Keith Garner said the vision of Wesley LifeForce is to educate, empower and resource local Australian communities to be aware of the issue of suicide which claims an average of six Australians every day.

"Simple effective interventions can make a difference and save lives," Rev Garner.

"The Wesley LifeForce program is just one of the very practical ways that Wesley Mission helps the community."

Workshop participants will learn about the issues surrounding suicide and be equipped with the skills to identify and support people at risk.

They will also be shown how to access professional assistance and support.

The suicide prevention workshop is from 8.45am-4pm on Wednesday May 23 at the Nambucca Heads Bowling Club.

There are 24 places available and the cost is $30 per participant.
