Hotel set to re-open

DESPITE ongoing wrangles with his insurance company, Hotel Laidley publican Greg Walker is ready to open part of his hotel during the week.

Mr Walker said he aimed to re-open as much of his premises as possible in an effort to be up and trading again.

“Six months after the damaging January floods, my insurance claims have still not been sorted out but, with the help of many generous people, I’m just about ready to open the doors,” Mr Walker said.

“New carpet has been laid in the entrance and in the gaming lounge.

“The gaming area had to be completely rebuilt, but is now ready to begin operating again,” he said.

Mr Walker paid tribute to his staff for the role they had played in keeping the hotel open.

“Everybody has been most helpful and, although we’re still a fair way away from completely opening, work has progressed to the stage where we can provide a service to our patrons,” Mr Walker said.

“The bottle shop trade allowed us to keep our heads above water during these difficult times, and I want to thank my staff for their loyalty and hard work.”
