Hotel for Lake Wivenhoe considered

SOMERSET Regional Council will seek input from Seqwater before making a decision on commissioning a feasibility study into building a hotel near Lake Wivenhoe.

Councillors discussed the tourism benefits that would come from building an upmarket hotel near the dam.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the idea itself was "promising" but further discussions with Seqwater were required to ensure money was not "unnecessarily" wasted.

"We need to know that we have the support of Seqwater before we go and spend in excess of $30,000 on a feasibility study," he said.

Council deferred the matter to a future council meeting in order to receive and consider further information from Seqwater.
