Hotel hosting gala for flood fund
METRO Hotel Ipswich International will hold a gala cocktail function this month with entertainment from Paulini and special guest Shane Webcke.
Guest relations manager Fran Edney said all proceeds from the event would go to the Ipswich Flood Appeal.
“We heard some heart-wrenching stories from so many people during last month’s floods,” Mrs Edney said.
“Staff were affected, with some losing everything.
“At one stage we had two house-keeping staff for 97 rooms because so many of our team couldn’t even get in to work.
“We also hosted the NRL players when they came and had a few relief workers stay.”
She said Mayor Paul Pisasale’s motivation during the diaster was infectious.
“Watching the way he represented Ipswich was inspirational and as such he is our other guest of honour on the night,” she said.
There are 400 tickets available, at $100 each.
“The price includes everything, from a welcome cocktail on arrival to live entertainment, canapes, beer, wine and soft drinks throughout the evening,” Mrs Edney said.
Hotel general manager Alex van Kersen said the list of donations for auction on the night continued to grow, with a professional auctioneer hosting the bidding.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of sporting groups and celebrities who donated wonderful sporting memorabilia,” Mr van Kersen said.
“Many local businesses have been coming on board by donat-ing vouchers for lucky door prizes.”
The cocktail function will be held on Wednesday, March 16, from 7.30pm until 10.30pm at the International on South St, Ipswich.
