Hot in the city and a scorcher for Laidley and Gatton

Ipswich is set for more hot weather today with the city expected to see a high of 36 degrees.

Boonah and Esk will experience similar conditions but it will be a scorcher in Laidley and Gatton with 37C and 38C on the cards.

The Bureau of Meteorology says there is also a high chance of showers today, most likely during the afternoon and evening, and the chance of a gusty thunderstorm.

Partly cloudy skies and the chance of a rain will make tomorrow more pleasant with the temperature expected to stay below 30C mark.

Those cooler conditions will stretch into Friday with cloudy and rainy skies seeing the mercury fall to 28 degrees.

The mild weather will continue over the Christmas weekend with a high of 29C for both Saturday and Sunday before the heat returns early next week.
