Hornets find no answer to Valley
THERE was no getting swept away by his first grade debut for schoolboy all-rounder Harry Wood.
The day after playing for the Ipswich Logan Hornets against a Valleys team featuring several Queensland representatives, Wood was back into age group cricket, representing the Ipswich Lord Taverners (under 17) against Gold Coast at Baxter Oval yesterday.
Wood's feet were unlikely to have left the ground during his senior debut however.
His Hornets side was heavily beaten at Baxter Oval by Valley to remain winless this season.
Valley's first innings of 6-297 on day one (October 17) was too much for the home team, who managed 177 in their first innings response and finished 3-67 following-on in their second.
Wood made just three, but was one of many who struggled against the quality Valley bowling line-up.
Chief destroyer for the visitors in the Hornets first innings was Josh Dascombe with 6-30.
Only Justin Dawes (38) and David Lyons (36) were a able to keep the visitors at bay for long.
It was a far cry from the last cricket Wood had played before making his Hornets debut in the top grade.
That was representing the national champion Queensland under 17 team, from which he was chosen in the Australian under 17 side.
