Honda to add diesel CR-V and launches two month sale

HONDA has ramped up the sales offensive, offering free registration and third party insurance costs across four models until the end of the year while also revealing plans to add a diesel variant to its CR-V range.

From January, a 110kW/350Nm 2.2-litre oil-burner will be part of the CR-V sports utility vehicle line-up.

Prices are yet to be revealed.

It will be available in four-wheel drive only, partnered with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Honda quotes average fuel economy of 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres and 151g/km CO2 (manual transmission).

While the diesel CR-V is three months away, Honda dealers are looking to keep sales ticking over by  offering free registration and compulsory third party insurance on all CR-V, Civic sedan, Accord or City during November and December.

This year has seen a vastly improved performance from Honda following a disappointing 2012 which was marred by supply constraints.

But the Japanese marque has enjoyed a strong return to form in 2013 - currently sitting on a 3.7% market share.

Honda remains in Australia's top-10 marques, and the new diesel CR-V is a vital component to continued success.

While the 2.0-litre (2WD) and 2.4-litre (AWD) petrol have been popular, the diesel option with strengthen its appeal against the segment leading Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota RAV4.

"We know how much our customers are looking forward to this addition to our line-up and they will also be happy to know it retains the petrol variant's huge interior space, creature-comforts and of course many of Honda's important active and passive safety features," Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said.
