A REPORTED 4m crocodile has been spotted at Colosseum Inlet near Tannum Sands.

Kim McKenzie said she saw the crocodile last Saturday while holidaying at her family's fishing shack.

Ms McKenzie said her family has had a place there for about 70 years.

"But that's the first time we've seen anything like that and it was quite confronting," she said.

"We've heard that other people may have seen one, but we've never really taken it too seriously, because some of the stories were a little bit conflicting."

Crocs on the move

Ms McKenzie said she saw the crocodile from a distance and then used binoculars to get a clearer view.

"We also got a really good sighting later on, at low tide we were going to go for a walk at Wild Cattle Island and there it was, fully out of the water with its jaws open," she said.

"As we got closer it went into the water, so I didn't get a photo, we were all just a bit stunned."

Ms McKenzie said she grew up swimming in the area as did her kids, so it was a worry to see a crocodile there.

It's not the first crocodile spotted in the region, an outrigger saw one while paddling at Seventeen Seventy last week.

On their Facebook page Aerial Media Gladstone said a parks officer was preparing to set a trap from Wild Cattle Creek yesterday.

The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection has been contacted for comment.
