COMMODORE will survive beyond 2016.

Holden chairman and managing director Mike Devereux confirmed there will be another Australian built Commodore after the VF - which will be revealed on Sunday.

"People love this nameplate and we're going to have another one of these," he said.

"Right now we haven't even started building the VF so we will leave all that speculation for years from now."

General Motors has started working on the Commodore of the future with support from the Australian team.

Mr Devereux would not reveal any further details, including the possibility of downsizing or going to front-wheel drive.

"This thing (VF) will run to the end of '16, after that time we are going to be putting two global  architectures into the plant one of them will underpin the next Commodore," he said.

"We are going to launch VF, I think it's going to be a great car for Holden. We will talk of the details after we have even sold this one.

"There is another Commodore coming after this one. We are going to build it in Adelaide on a fantastic architecture and you are just going to have to wait about three years to find out what that is."

Holden is setting itself for a massive year.

The Aussie carmaker is planning six product launches in four new segments, while being backed by 40% more marketing funds.

Holden is promising a car with "significant new technologies which will improve fuel economy, deliver extra safety and enhance the driving experience" in its VF Commodore.

The wraps come off the VF tomorrow morning in Melbourne.
