Hoffman backs rookies in finals

STORM veteran Ryan Hoffman knows finals experience at the business end of the season is crucial - he's played in three premiership-winning Melbourne teams.

But he tipped uncapped finals teammates Tohu Harris and Kenny Bromwich to play a big part in his side's attempt to defend its title, starting in tonight's qualifying final against the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium.

Just four players in Craig Bellamy's 18-man squad to face South Sydney, also including Maurice Blair and Jordan McLean, have never played finals football.

"Even though quite a few of us played finals last year, there are still some guys who haven't played much finals football like Tohu and Kenny," Hoffman said.

"Their form throughout the season, especially in the lead up to the finals, fills us with a lot of confidence that they are going to be great."

Hoffman will embark on his ninth finals campaign with Melbourne, and said his team has prepared diligently for the big games.

"You can get caught sometimes keeping one eye on the finals, but I don't think we have been guilty of that," he said.
