History may repeat with Tigers on finals prowl
THERE is something familiar about tonight's Ipswich Rugby League A-grade elimination semi-final.
Goodna meets Norths, just as they did in the corresponding match last year. Norths won that game 38-34 after an epic comeback.
It is good psychological fuel for the Tigers heading into tonight's encounter.
"It will be in our memory bank," Norths hooker Robbie Peters said.
"It's something we've spoken about. They came out quick and before we knew it was 20-nil.
"We were down 24-6 at the break but things just started to click for us after half-time.
"We just got on a roll. I think our fitness was a bit better."
It means the Tigers will have confidence they can win, however dire the circumstances get.
But Peters would much rather see his team lead from the front this time.
"Just containing their big men," he said of the key to a win.
"We can't afford to let them get a roll on. Other wise they are very hard to pin back."
Both sides would argue they are stronger now than then.
Goodna have added the odd former international and are playing more effective footy, according to Peters.
"They've started playing a more structured game this year," Peters said.
"Last year they were throwing balls out the back and just hoping it would work.
"It makes them all the more dangerous now."
Norths are in the rare position of a near full squad of players to choose from.
"The main difference this year is we haven't had as much player turnover," Peters said.
"It's been pretty much the same 17 every game.
"So we've been able to work on our combinations much better."
