High Aussie emotion in Davis Cup revival

AUSTRALIA advanced to another Davis Cup semi-final after a stirring performance at the Queensland Tennis Centre.

Rising star Nick Kyrgios led the charge for Australia against the USA, sealing the quarter-final victory with another strong performance against Sam Querrey.

Cheered on by a supportive crowd of 5823, Kyrgios set up a semi-final clash in September with either Italy or Belgium.

Securing Australia's place in the Davis Cup semi-finals for the second time in three years, Kyrgios said he felt mentally prepared leading into the Brisbane tournamanet.

"After the Australian Open, it was tough. I wasn't in a really good place,” Kyrgios said. "But I guess the one thing that fixes that is just wins.

"You know, just getting out there and delivering, no matter, that's the main thing. That's what I've been doing.”

Praising Australian coach Lleyton Hewitt for his role in the win, the 21-year-old greatly enjoyed the support from his Queensland fans.

"I'm playing better and I'm just in a happier place,” Kyrgios said. "You know, I'm going out there and playing the game how it's supposed to be played, and playing hard.

"It was good to come back here and have that support. You know, I thought they really embraced me this time. As I said, I got two big wins, and it's hard not to like - everyone loves to win.”
